Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost?

We have several programs for many different people and backgrounds each designed to provide the best education in Kuk Sool. This five-in-one martial art is priced about the same as other, single martial arts styles. Many families pay less than $95/month per student. We have a program that can suit your needs. First sign up for a FREE LESSON NOW and determine for yourself how much you will benefit the most from Kuk Sool Won.

How often may I come to class?

That would depend on the program that you signed up for. The majority of students come to class twice a week and often stay for two or even three classes in a row. Standard membership allows you to come to class every day if you choose, including Saturday.

Is Kuk Sool like Karate?

The short answer is "yes, and a lot more." Kuk Sool is not limited to a single style like karate, taekwondo, or jiujitzu. Kuk Sool is the comprehensive study of five martial arts in one. This is the original cross-training program established long before "cross-training" became popular. It is the orignial mixed-martial art before mixed-martial arts became popular. The advantage is that you learn what works best for you rather than limiting yourself to one style.

Will I get hurt?

No. Keeping in mind that any physical activity has its risks. Kuk Sool isn't any riskier than soccer, tennis, or basketball. There was a student who trained too hard and fought a lot and went to work with bruises on his face. He was proud to say "look at me. Look at how hard I train." Then someone asked him "why did you pay someone to do that to you." We at Kuk Sool Won are trying to
learn how not to get hurt. You can learn self-defense and the martial arts while building yourself up and keeping yourself safe.

What is the youngest age that you start?

We have students that start as young as four years old. Rambunctious boys and girls need to play and be active. Just as important is that they need some direction and structure to make this youthful play constructive. Our Little Ninjas program is ideal for offering this form of structure and guidance. We often invite the parents to join their youngsters helping to show how important is while they, too, gain the benefits of a well structure physical fitnesss program.

But I'm too old to learn martial arts, aren't I?

ABSOLUTELY NOT. My favorite story is about K.C. McClean and her daughter from Citrus Heights: "I started Kuk Sool with my daughter when I was 38 years old, she was only 14 ... I just turned 62 and got promoted to Master (Fifth degree black belt)." Master K.C. had never done any physical fitness program before putting on a while belt in Kuk Sool. Her specialty is women's self-defense.

How long does it take to earn a Black Belt?

As with most anything, you get out of Kuk Sool what you put into it. Earning a black belt brings with it much more than expetise in self-defense. The confidence, the change in character, the physical fitness, strength, flexibility, dexterity and overall health are more than ample reward for the dedicated student. Most people earn their black belt in just over 3 years. Ask about an accleerated program if you are up for a real challenge.

How can I get my child to Kuk Sool from school?

We are very happy to have developed a community of families who help each other out by providing carpools from each of our local schools: El Granada Elementary School, Hatch Elementary School, Cunha Middle School, Faralone View Elementary School and Sea Crest Elementary School.

Are you a Home-School vendor?

Yes, we are. We are very proud of our Home School students. Their independence and determination are an inspiration to the whole school. We are happy to support Home-School. Let us know if you are Home-Schooled and we will do everything that we can to support you.

I don't like bullies, how will Kuk Sool effect my child?

Our children's program starts with strong mind training. Strong mind training is founded upon martial arts etiquette. This means that students must learn respect for others and practice that respect constantly while in and out of the class. The "yes, Sir!" that you hear them yell is only one example. Bullying is not tolerated and students are invited to leave if they persist in showing poor judgment and poor behavior.
